Xiaomi's Redmi budget smartphone with high-end specs to hit Singapore on Feb 21
For slightly above $200, consumers are likely to get a dual-core processor smartphone with a low resolution screen. Not so with China handset maker Xiaomi's Redmi.
The budget 4.7-inch smartphone will be available here from Feb 21 for just $169, without contract, but with better specifications.
Redmi sports a quad-core processor and a high definition 720p screen which has a pixel density close to that of Apple's iPhone 5s. This means apps can potentially run more smoothly and images could look sharper on the Redmi than many phones at the same price range. The phone can also hold two SIM cards, a feature not common among phones here.
Xiaomi made the announcement of Redmi's availability on its Singapore webpage on Friday but did not give details on how the phone would be sold. When contacted, the firm said that more details would be shared at a launch event on Feb 19.
