The long-awaited Google Maps app for Apple's iOS 6 is finally here. The Straits Times Digital Life had an exclusive first look at the free navigation app yesterday (Dec 12), before the official launch this afternoon.
While Google has an existing navigation app for Android devices, this new iOS app was built from the ground up, and has an entirely new user interface. It makes use of the full iPhone screen to display the map, and only has a search box located on the top.
Google gave Digital Life a hands-on of the app installed on an iPhone 5, which is only one out of two available in the region that has been loaded with the new Google Maps.
Users can log in with their Google profile on the search box. If they had previously searched for a location using their profile on a desktop, tapping the search box on the app will produce a list of those previous searches.
