Sony's PlayStation 4 supports used games, offline play and is cheaper than the Xbox One

Sony unveiled its next generation gaming console PlayStation 4 (PS4) on Monday while unsheathing its claws for rival Microsoft as the gaming giants go head to head on the next generation console wars.

The PS4 will launch at US$399 (S$502) during this year end holiday season but for now it is not known if Singapore will be in the list of the initial launch countries.

The biggest cheers during the launch event were heard when Sony announced that PlayStation 4 would support used disc games, a direct snipe at Microsoft Xbox One's used games restriction.

"You can trade in the game, lend it to a friend, or keep it forever," said Mr Jack Tretton, Sony Computer Entertainment's president and chief executive officer.
