Sony's high resolution QX-10 and QX-100 camera lenses connect to your smartphone
In the continuing battle of compact cameras versus smartphone cameras, Sony has decided to merge the two.
The company's upcoming DSC-QX10 and QX-100 lenses are actually lenses with fully functional camera features that can be attached to any Android or iOS smartphone.
Using the PlayMemories app, users can trigger the shutter, zoom in and out, and change basic settings on the lens attachment to snap their favourite image, at 18 megapixels for the QX-10 and 20 megapixels for the QX-100.
Announced prior to the start of the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin, the lenses will allow users to continue to snap high resolution photos even when they change their phones, and offer users the flexibility to upload sharper photos onto social networks or send them to friends with their smartphones.
At the press event yesterday, Sony also announced the new Xperia Z1 smartphone which comes with a 20.7 megapixel camera, a music video recorder and a new Action Cam mounted camera.
Sony Singapore has not announced the local pricing and availability of the QX lenses in Singapore.
