LAS VEGAS - The E-paper watch Pebble, which gathered over US$10 million ($12 million) of funding as a Kickstarter project, finally has a shipping date. Pebble watches will be shipped from Jan 23 to Kickstarter backers, in an announcement during a press conference at the International CES 2013.
Being funded 100 times over its target, Pebble has proven to be a very popular product before it even shipped. However, it missed its Aug and Sept 2012 estimated shipping dates, frustrating backers. But now, they can look forward to their Pebble watches, as around 85,000 units will be shipped to backers first.
The Pebble watch is available for pre-order at http://getpebble.com for US$150. But be prepared to wait again as the priority is given to Kickstarter backers.
The Pebble watch has an E-ink display of 144 by 168 pixels. It has a built-in accelerometer with gesture detection and connects to Android or iOS smartphones via Bluetooth 4.0. Users can easily change its watch face via an app on their smartphones. They can also receive SMS and call notifications with the Pebble watch.
