LAS VEGAS - Forgot to start your washing machine, as you were rushing your kids to school? Fret not. With Korean chaebol LG's new Smart Home Service, users can remote activate their washing machine or robotic vacuum cleaner when they are away from home.

LG's Smart Home Service system utilise its two smartphone apps: SmartShare and SmartControl. Users simply touch their smartphone to the Near Field Communications (NFC) tag on any of LG's smart appliances to register and control these appliances using the SmartShare app.

After the NFC one-touch registration, users can control LG's latest smart washing machine, refrigerator, range oven, or HOM-BOT robotic vacuum cleaner using SmartControl, even when they are away from home.

However, there is no word on the local pricing and availability of these LG's smart appliances. Look out for next week issue of Digital Life, as we find out more about LG's smart appliances and Smart Home Service on the CES 2013 show floor.
