CES 2014: Dead webOS mobile operating system resurrected by LG for its Smart TVs

LAS VEGAS - Remember webOS, the mobile operating system (OS) created by the now-defunct PDA maker Palm? When Palm was bought over by HP in 2010, there were great plans to use webOS for HP devices. That never happened when HP went through consecutive changes of leadership. The mobile OS was left for dead.
Then LG purchased it from HP last year and has given it a new lease of life as its new Smart TV platform.
"Users always complained that Smart TVs are too complicated," Dr Skott Ahn, LG's chief technology officer said, during the press conference on the eve of the annual technology trade show, Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2014.
"The use of webOS makes it possible for us to really simplify and improve the user experience", Dr Ahn added.
