Starting 2013, the winners of next year's Crocodile Challenge Cup, a local under-12 table tennis tournament, will gain direct qualification to the International Table Tennis Federation's (ITTF) multi-nation youth programme, the World Hopes Week & Challenge.

This was announced at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding this morning between the ITTF and the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA).

Officials from both bodies agreed that they shared the same vision of developing youth talents, and by allowing the top Singaporean youth paddlers to play and compete at Hopes Week, which attracted close to 70 countries at their second event this year in Sweden, it only serves to advance their cause.

Said Er. Dr Lee Bee Wah, president of the STTA: "These young champions from the Crocodile Challenge Cup are seen as our future sports stars. We understand how critical it is to provide our youth paddlers the support and resources they need to compete and succeed in table tennis at an early age. And the ITTF World Hopes Week & Challenge provides an excellent platform for these young champions."
