Singapore Table Tennis Association changes selection criteria for AYG and YOG

The Singapore Table Tennis Association has made a u-turn on its selection criteria for the upcoming Asian Youth Games in August and next year's Youth Olympic Games.

It has decided to hold trials after criticism from some paddlers' parents and the Singapore National Olympic Council.

Its initial set of criteria was deemed unfair and there were claims that it favoured those in the Singapore Sports School's School Within A School programme.

The new criteria will allow 20 players from the national youth squad to undergo a trial from which two boys and two girls will be chosen to join five other SWS players to form the YOG training team. The nine of them will then have a play-off to determine the two representatives (one boy and one girl) for the AYG.
