Seven of Singapore's athletes who competed at this year's London Olympics enjoyed a windfall from corporate sponsors on Thursday.
Geraldine Lee (canoeing), Lim Heem Wei (gymnastics), Joseph Schooling (swimming), Jasmine Ser (shooting), Tao Li (swimming), Derek Wong (badminton) and Gary Yeo (athletics) received a total of $144,000 in grants from Canon, Samsung and SingTel.
This year's cash boost was more than three times higher than the $44,000 given out in 2009. Each athlete received between $7,000 and $28,000.
The grants come from the Singapore National Olympic Council's Partner Athlete programme, which pairs promising athletes with sponsors.
