Second Youth Olympic Festival gets off to rousing start

More than 1,230 young athletes will get a taste of competing in a multi-sport event at the ongoing Singapore Youth Olympic Festival.

The eight-day event, which was officially declared opened on Tuesday morning, will feature six sports.

The festival, now into its second edition, was started to celebrate the legacy of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) held in Singapore in 2010.

Said International Olympic Committee vice-president Ng Ser Miang, who was guest of honour at the opening ceremony at Anglican High School: "The real legacy of our work, as the world had witnessed, is that so many of the Young Olympians from the Singapore Games unlocking their potential and excelling on the world stage."
