SEA Games: Two bronzes from boxing for Singapore after semi-final losses
Singapore earned two bronze medals in boxing from Muhammad Solihin Nordin and Muhamad Ridhwan Ahmad at the Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex on Friday.
Both boxers lost in their semi-final bouts. Solihin faced Thailand's Donchai Thathi in the bantamweight (56kg) category, and the referee stopped the fight in the first round after he stepped in thrice to administer the "standing eight" count rule to Solihin.
Ridhwan lasted the full three round against the Philippines' Junel Cantancio in the lightweight (60kg) category, but the judges unanimously awarded the bout to the Filipino.
Beaten semi-finalists are automatically awarded a bronze, as there are no bouts to decide the third-placed boxer.
