Singapore rower Saiyidah Aisyah Mohamed Rafa'ee clinched a SEA Games gold in the women's lightweight single sculls 2,000m competition at Ngalike Dam in Naypyidaw on Tuesday.

The only rowing representative for the Republic at the Games, she wins her sport's first gold since 1997.

The 25-year-old was still in third place with only 500m left in the race, but caught up to cross the finishing point first in 8min 8.94sec.

Indonesia's Maryam Makdalena Daimoi was second in 8:10.47, while Myanmar's Shwe Zin Latt was third in 8:14.85.
