This Sunday's Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore will feature 24 international elite athletes from seven countries competing in the Open category of the full marathon. This includes the men's and women's defending champions from last year, Kenyans Charles Mwai Kanyao and Irene Jerotich Kosgei.

Kanyao will face fierce competition from countryman Luke Kibet for the top men's open prize of US$50,000.

Kibet is a two-time winner of the SCMS and also holds the course record of 2hr 11min 25sec. Kosgei is aiming for a hat-trick of titles, after winning the women's event in 2010 and last year.

This year's SCMS will feature a total of 53,000 runners across four categories (full marathon, half marathon, 10km, Ekiden and kids' dash). The full 42.195km event will feature 19,200 runners.
