Panathinaikos fires third coach of season
ATHENS (AFP) - Greek Super League club Panathinaikos announced on Sunday that they have fired Spanish coach Fabri Gonzalez as the financially-troubled Athens club is suffering one of their worst seasons in the domestic league.
The team announced that assistant coach Giannis Vonortas will manage the team for the last four matches of the season and possible playoff action, becoming the fourth coach in the campaign equalling a team record set in the 2004-2005 season.
Gonzalez, 58, joined Panathinaikos in January but failed to lift the team beyond their current sixth place position in the Super League and Saturday's 1-0 loss at home to Platania was the last straw.
He replaced Argentine Juan Ramon Rocha who had taken over the club for a month after the departure of Portugal's Jesualdo Ferreira who started the season.
