Olympics: Washington to bid for 2024 Summer Games
WASHINGTON (AP) - Washington is making a push for the 2024 Olympics.
Organisers announced on Tuesday the formation of DC 2024, aimed at bringing the games to the United States for the first time since Atlanta hosted in 1996.
DC 2024 president Bob Sweeney calls Washington "the safest and most secure city in the world".
He pointed out that the largest expense of any Olympics is security, and that the city has it "built in to our everyday life here in Washington".
