Olympics: India running out of time for major Games, says IOC member
NEW DELHI (AP) - A top Indian Olympic official says the suspended Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is running out of time to clean up its administration before next year's Winter Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Randhir Singh told The Associated Press on Saturday that any delay would mean "a crucial loss of time" as the major sporting events grow closer.
The IOA was suspended in December for conducting elections declared illegal by the IOC.
It has been given an Oct 31 deadline by the IOC to amend its constitution and a Dec 15 deadline to hold fresh elections if it wants to return to the Olympic fold.
