Maradona remains in Dubai as sports 'ambassador'
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - Dubai authorities say football great Diego Maradona will remain in the city as a special sports adviser and envoy after being dismissed as coach for a local club.
The Dubai Sports Council says Maradona will be an "honorary ambassador" for sports in Dubai and represent the city in international conferences.
No other details of the deal were announced on Sunday, but officials say the accord covers the remainder of his two-year contract at Al Wasl.
The 51-year-old Argentine legend was fired after his first season leading the club. He reportedly had held talks with Chinese football officials for a possible post.
