LionsXII aim for top-5 finish in 2013 despite younger team

Despite fielding a younger team this year, Football Association of Singapore president Zainudin Nordin has set the LionsXII a top-five target going into the 2013 Malaysian Super League (MSL).

Just five of the 29 members in this year's squad are aged above 23. This is because coach V. Sundramoorthy has been tasked with preparing the bulk of his side for the Under-23 football competition at December's SEA Games.

But after finishing runners-up in the MSL to Kelantan last season, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Malaysia Cup, Mr Zainudin is hopeful of more success.

"Last year we wanted to finish in the top five," he pointed out. "It was a reasonable target and for our second season, it's a decent target for them to maintain - and, at the same time, reach the final of one of the Cups."

He was speaking at the LionsXII pre-season press conference at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

In addition to the unveiling of Sundram's 29-man squad, the team's new kit - all red at home, all navy away - was also revealed.

The FAS also announced that TicketBooth has come on board as the LionsXII's official ticketing partner.

Starting at noon on Monday, fans will be able to purchase tickets to the team's home matches either online, at one of 12 TicketBooth counters islandwide, or at any AXS machine.
