Horse racing: Ex-England striker Michael Owen scores big in Goodwood Cup
GOODWOOD, ENGLAND (AP) - Brown Panther, bred and part-owned by former England striker Michael Owen, won the Goodwood Cup on Thursday.
Running over two miles for only the second time in his career, the 5-year-old 13-2 shot showed plenty of stamina to beat Ahzeemah by three lengths at the Goodwood Festival.
Owen said: "There is a lot of heritage in this race and it's a fabulous race to win."
The 33-year-old Owen recently retired from football after playing for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle, Manchester United and Stoke City.
