Formula One: Sebastian Vettel eclipses 5-year lap record at Singapore Grand Prix practice
Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel looks set to break the lap record at the Formula One SingTel Singapore Grand Prix, after clocking the fastest time during the second practice session on Friday night.
The defending champion clocked 1min 44.249sec in his practice lap, which is faster than Kimi Raikkonen's record of 1:45.599 set during the first Singapore race in 2008.
The record was expected to be broken this year, after race organisers replaced the "Singapore Sling" triple-apex chicane with a simple left turn, allowing for faster lap speeds.
Earlier, Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton clocked the fastest time in the first practice session, with 1:47.055.
