JEREZ, Spain (AP) - Ferrari's new test pilot, Pedro de la Rosa, was forced to abandon his car during Formula One testing when the Italian team's new vehicle began to spout smoke.

De la Rosa was only on his second lap behind the wheel of the new F138 when he stopped on the Jerez track on Friday.

This was De la Rosa's first time behind the wheel of the Ferrari after driver Felipe Massa practiced this week. Massa's team-mate, Fernando Alonso, did not attend the Jerez tests.

Friday is the fourth and final day of testing in southern Spain. There are two more tests in Barcelona before the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on March 17.
