Former national swimmer Mark Chay will lead Singapore's young athletes to Nanjing this August, after being named chef de mission for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) announced on Sunday that the 32-year-old will head the Republic's delegation to the Aug 16-28 event.

Said Chay: "It's an honour and privilege to be appointed chef de mission. It's a very different role from what I'm used to as an athlete, and I hope I'm up to it."

A two-time Olympian (2000 and 2004), he is a former Sportsboy (2001) and Sportsman (2002) of the Year and has also competed at the SEA Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games levels.
