Football: Spanish TV producer and clubs fined heavily for rights breach
MADRID (AFP) - Spain's National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) has imposed significant fines on television production giant Mediapro and four clubs, including Real Madrid and Barcelona, for breaching rules on the sale of television rights.
The CNMC handed down fines totalling 15 million euros (S$25.6 million) for what it described in a statement as "a very serious infraction" of the rules on the acquisition of football-related rights.
Mediapro were fined 6.5 million euros, while Real Madrid have been ordered to pay 3.9 million euros and Barcelona 3.6 million euros.
In addition, Sevilla have been fined 900,000 euros and Racing Santander 30,000 euros.
