The LionsXII gave their flagging Malaysia Cup campaign a much-needed shot in the arm with a 2-1 win over Perak at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday evening.

Centre-back Safuwan Baharudin was the hero for V. Sundramoorthy's side, latching on to goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud's long clearance to lift the ball over Farizal Marlias for an 85th-minute winner.

Captain Hariss Harun had earlier seen his opener cancelled out by Noor Hazrul's stunning free kick.

The win takes the LionsXII to four points from their opening four matches. They next face Sarawak at Jalan Besar on Sept 18.
