The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) announced on Monday that 65-year-old Jita Singh has resigned as senior head of game development to pursue other opportunities.

Jita was the youngest national team coach when he led Singapore at age 29 from 1979 to 1984. In his first assignment, he guided the Lions to victory defending champions Myanmar in the 1979 SEA Games. He would then guide Singapore to the 1980 Malaysia Cup triumph.

Jita joined the FAS in 2007 as head of grassroots development and spent the next seven years devoting his time and efforts to reform and enhance the youth development structure in Singapore.

Apart from youth development, he was also involved in other aspects of Singapore football: overseeing women's football, coaching and development, the National Football Academy, as well as club and junior centres of excellence.

FAS is shortlisting candidates to fill Jita's position, and an announcement on the appointment will be made soon.
