PARIS (AFP) - French first and second division football clubs have called off their planned strike at the end of the month in protest at a 75 per cent tax on high earners, the clubs' professional body announced on Thursday.

The strike had originally been planned for the weekend of Nov 29 to Dec 2, but it has now been put on hold for the time being.

Jean-Pierre Louvel, president of the Professional Football Clubs Union, said the strike "has not been cancelled" but would go ahead at a later date should "negotiations over the 75% tax fail".
