LONDON (AFP) - Newcastle United have signed Dutch international striker Luuk de Jong on loan from Borussia Moenchengladbach with an option for a permanent transfer, the Premier League club announced on Wednesday.

News of the 23-year-old's arrival was published on the club website a matter of minutes after Paris Saint-Germain announced that they had completed the signing of France midfielder Yohan Cabaye from Newcastle.

De Jong will be on loan at St James' Park until the end of the season and could make his debut in Saturday's local derby against fierce rivals Sunderland.

"Newcastle is a great club and I have a good feeling about it," de Jong told the Newcastle website. "I am very impressed with the stadium and training ground and have been made to feel very welcome by everyone I have met.
