Football: Beckham hopes to emulate Giggs and Scholes in PSG role
PARIS (REUTERS) - David Beckham does not expect to be a regular starter at Paris St Germain but he hopes to adopt the same role as Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes perform at his old club Manchester United, the former England captain said on Thursday.
The 37-year-old former Real Madrid midfielder made a surprise move to the big-spending Ligue 1 club on transfer deadline day last month when many had written him off.
The transfer grabbed the attention of the world's media but after signing a five-month contract and agreeing to donate his salary to a children's charity in Paris, Beckham now has to prove he can still contribute on the pitch.
Former team-mates Giggs, 39, and Scholes, 38, are still playing at United in their late 30s, albeit on a bit-part basis, and their roles are a template for Beckham.
