MADRID (AFP) - Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has ended speculation over his future by signing a new two-year contract, he confirmed on Wednesday, Jan 8, 2014.

"This will continue to be my home for two more years. I am very happy to tell you. Come on Madrid!" he posted on his official Twitter account.

The 32-year-old had been free to talk to other clubs since Jan 1 as his previous deal was set to come to an end in June.

However, despite interest from a number of leading European clubs, including Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, Madrid have managed to tie down the Spain international.
