Paddler Feng Tianwei failed to get the better of China's world No.2 Liu Shiwen in the final of the Kuwait Open, losing 11-4, 11-13, 8-11, 2-11, 11-3, 8-11.

Despite drawing first blood and at one point leading 6-2 in the second game, the momentum of the match quickly swung to Liu, who has now won six out of their eight meetings.

Feng had made the final on Monday night (Singapore time) after beating world No.1 Ding Ning, also from China, in the semi-finals 4-3. It was just the second time Feng had defeated the Chinese in 14 meetings.

She will pocket US$10,500 (S$12,900) from her runner-up finish at the tournament.
