LIONSXII footballer Shakir Hamzah has been fined $4,000 and ordered to do 30 hours of community service.

The punishment was meted out by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) following a disciplinary hearing yesterday.

The 20-year-old player had been charged with bringing the game into disrepute after he falsely informed the FAS in May that he had the permission of his Singapore Police Force unit to travel to Kuantan for the Malaysian Super League match against Pahang on May 17.

In a statement, the FAS said that his $4,000 fine is to be paid in two monthly instalments by Aug 20. His community service in football is to be completed within three months under the supervision of an FAS youth coach.

Mr Mohamed Muzamil, chairman of the FAS internal disciplinary committee, said: "We take a serious view of Shakir's misconduct which includes absence without leave (Awol) from his unit, as well as falsely informing FAS' officials.

"We would like to reiterate that we do not condone such acts which bring the game into disrepute."

However, the defender's suspension from all football activity, which was imposed last Saturday, has been lifted with immediate effect, so he is available to play in Saturday's crunch MSL match against Johor Darul Takzim.
