Singapore shuttlers Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Chayut Triyachart pulled off an upset 21-17, 22-20 win today over home favourites and defending champions Goh V Shem and Lim Khim Wah at the Malaysia Grand Prix Gold, clinching the Republic's first title at the tournament since its inception in 2009.

Their landmark victory left Malaysia's competitors empty-handed at the event - held in Pasir Gudang, Johor - for the first time.

Singapore's pairing, ranked No. 281 in the world, were unfazed by their more illustrious counterparts - the world No. 15 pairing and tournament's second seeds.

They had overcome the top seeds, Malaysia's Hoon Thien How and Tan Wee Kiong, 21-16, 22-20 in the first round.
