As the hustings draw to a close for the Punggol East by-election, Workers' Party (WP) candidate Lee Li Lian said she has achieved her campaign target of covering all 127 Housing Board blocks in the ward.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday evening, Ms Lee said she has personally visited the 40 per cent of blocks which she did not manage to complete during her last contest in 2011.

"Together with the help of my party members, we have completed 100 per cent," she added. Over the last nine days, party leaders and MPs have fanned out across the estate to knock on doors and canvass for support.

Describing the campaign as "intense but very memorable", the 34-year-old sales trainer said the nine days have been physically challenging.
