A woman who was convicted of three counts of abusing her Indonesian maid over a two-month period was jailed for 16 months on Friday.

Housewife Soh Meiyun, 32, was found guilty after a seven-day trial of using a hot metal spoon to burn the left arm of Ms Lilis Sriyatun, 26, using a bamboo pole to hit her head, back and thighs and using a sewing needle to poke and scratch her on her hands and body.

The attacks took place at her Compassvale Link flat between April and May 2009.

Soh is appealing against her sentence.
