Four social enterprises have won the inaugural 2012 President's Challenge Social Enterprise Award, and another three received special mentions.

Launched in March this year, it is the only award in Singapore that recognises the contributions of social enterprises.

The Social Enterprise of the Year award went to two winners - alteration company A-Changin and restaurant chain Eighteen Chefs. New Soon Huat, which serves bak kut teh (pork rib broth) and other Chinese food, won Social Enterprise Start-Up of the Year. Adrenaline Events and Education won Youth Social Enterprise of the Year, which is given out to organisations founded and managed by people under the age of 35.

The awards were given out by President Tony Tan Keng Yam at the Istana on Thursday night. The winners each received a trophy and cash prizes of between $10,000 and $15,000.
