Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has become the latest after Environment and Water Resources Minister Vivian Balakrishnan to urge people to save water in the face of prolonged dry weather here.

In a post on his Facebook page on Sunday night, PM Lee wrote: "The dry spell continues. Luckily we now have desalination and NEWater, otherwise our reservoirs would be emptying out, and we might be in real difficulty."

Water levels were low at MacRitchie Reservoir and Lower Seletar, he noted, adding that the Istana grounds too "have not been spared".

He also posted a link to the website of national water agency PUB, which gave tips on how to save water. "Do try your best to conserve water, and use only what you really need," Mr Lee urged.
