Underwriter jailed 3 months for having paid sex with minor
A former underwriter became the 21st man in the high profile online vice ring case to be jailed for commercial sex.
Frederick Chen Kwek Kwong, 44, who was among 51 men charged last year, was sentenced to 12 weeks' jail after admitting to paying $450 for the sexual services of a 17-year-old girl at Hotel 81 Bencoolen on Oct 1, 2010.
A district court heard that the minor was among the escorts listed on a website operated by pimp Tang Boon Thiew. She was described as an 18-year-old polytechnic student on the website.
Chen, who is married with two children, came across the website in late 2010 and on Oct 1 that year, he booked the services of the minor whose pimp quoted him $450 for one hour. He proceeded to the hotel in Bencoolen Street, and after he had booked a room, sent a text message to Tang. Tang then directed the escort to meet him in the hotel room. Chen did not ask the girl for her age before having sex with her.
