Two more lawyers appointed Senior Counsel

Lawyer N. Sreenivasan of Straits Law and Mr Lionel Yee Woon Chin from the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC), were appointed Senior Counsel on Friday morning at the opening of the legal year.

Mr Sreenivasan is the managing director of the Singapore-based practice, while Mr Yee is Second Solicitor-General, the third-highest-ranking post within the AGC.

The two new appointments, announced by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, brings the number of elite Senior Counsel here to 54.

The accolade, introduced in 1997, is given to those who possess outstanding ability as advocates, extensive knowledge of the law and the highest professional standing.

Mr Sreenivasan has handled several high-profile cases, including representing Mr Tan Chi Min, the former head of RBS' global banking and marketing division in Singapore when he sued the bank in the High Court.

He is also representing one of the defendants in the City Harvest Church case.

Mr Yee has held the post of Second Solicitor-General since January 2011. The post carries a three-year term.

He was previously director-general of the AGC's International Affairs Divisionand received the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2001 and Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2008.
