Total Defence campaign marks 30th year with host of activities

This year's Total Defence campaign marks its 30th anniversary by paying tribute to those who have played a role in defending the country.
Organisers say they want to recognise every deed - big or small - that has rallied Singaporeans together.
Colonel Roland Ng, director of the Defence Ministry unit, Nexus, which runs the campaign, said it is about affirming the contributions of people from all walks of life, ranging from a bus driver who greets passengers every morning to a woman who runs a community garden on the rooftop of her HDB block.
The annual Total Defence drive, which started in 1984, reminds Singaporeans of the country's limited resources and of each person's role in defending this place.
