The elderly living in Taman Jurong can now enjoy facilities such as a karaoke room and an exercise area, now that a new service centre for seniors has opened its doors.

Set up and run by the Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities (THKMC), the centre at Blk 337 Tah Ching Road was officially opened by guest-of-honour, Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and Minister of State for Social and Family Development, Madam Halimah Yacob, on Saturday morning.

"The first thing we wanted to do was to make sure senior citizens can get support for health problems and social support in one place," said Mr Tharman, who with Madam Halimah are advisors to the Jurong GRC grassroots organisation.

The centre also offers a concierge service, much like those offered at hotels, which provides assistance to elderly residents.
