Thousands join the fun at Singapore's 1st National Games
The first Singapore National Games opened on Saturday amid a carnival atmosphere along the Punggol Waterway.
Thousands of people watched as 100 kayaks and 30 rafts made for a colourful sail-past.
On a pontoon on the water, a ceremonial baton relay took place among six people, including the games' youngest and oldest athletes aged eight and 80, as well as table tennis star Feng Tianwei.
The games, which were declared open by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, are organised by the Singapore Sports Council and the People's Association, and will run until Sept 9.
