Teenagers allegedly broke into mosque and stole from donation box

Three 14-year-old males have been arrested for allegedly breaking into a mosque and stealing money from its donation box, police said on Monday.

On Sunday at about 11.50 pm, a 52-year-old victim reported to the police that someone had broken into the mosque along Jurong East Street 21, and that the incident was captured by in-house security cameras.

The police arrived at the scene shortly and arrested the first two suspects. They managed to trace their accomplice and arrested him at Jurong East Street 24 about four hours later.

The police seized two screwdrivers and one plier as case exhibits. The trio is believed to be involved in similar break-ins at the same building in September.

Investigations against them are ongoing. Anyone convicted of housebreaking and theft by night faces between two and 14 years in jail.
