Teen allegedly raped girl while on probation

A teenager who had been given probation for several offences failed to turn up in the High Court on Wednesday for a hearing into a related matter.

This, after he was charged on Nov 12 with a more serious offence of statutory rape, allegedly committed while he was on probation.

Lorrennzo Chia, 18, had initially been sentenced to reformative training by a district court in December last year. He had had sex with a minor, stole and had also made a false police report, claiming a taxi driver molested him.

In April, following an appeal to the High Court, he was instead put on probation for 30 months.
