A school teacher was charged in court on Monday with 10 counts of sexual abuse and committing an obscene act with a 15-year-old student.

The 32-year-old bespectacled man is alleged to have had sex with her eight times and committing an obscene act with her twice.

The alleged offences occurred at various places including his home and hotels over a four-month period.

According to court documents, he allegedly kissed and caressed her breasts in a bedroom at his home in Kensington Park in September 2012.

During the next two months, he is said to have had sex with her with her consent at Rifle Range Road, Hotel Ibis in Bencoolen Street, V Hotel Lavender in Jellicoe Road and an unknown location on six occasions.

The last two charges accuse him of having sex with the girl at his home on Dec 10 and an unknown location on Jan 11 last year.

His lawyer, Mr Roy Neighbour, sought an adjournment to make representations.

The accused, who is on $20,000 bail, will return to court on April 28.

If convicted of underage sex, he could be jailed for up to 10 years and/or fined on each charge.

The maximum penalty for committing an obscene act with a child is a $10,000 fine and five years' jail on each charge.
