SMRT staff were on site to guide commuters, who had to walk along the elevated tracks toward Kranji station on Saturday, after the train they were in was affected by a power fault.

"They were detrained onto the track," said a spokesman. "When they arrived at Kranji station, station staff handed out water to passengers affected by the incident as well."

A cable fault was what likely caused the train service disruptions along the North-South line, said SMRT in an update posted on its Facebook page earlier.

The rail operator said "a loss in traction power" caused the disruption which occurred between Kranji and Yew Tee MRT stations at about 12.30pm. Train service resumed at about 2.05pm, and interim free bus bridging services between Yew Tee and Woodlands MRT stations ceased at 2.54pm.
