THE state will contest a challenge by a gay couple seeking to prove that an anti-gay law is unconstitutional.

The trial has been set for Feb 14 next year. Chief Prosecutor Aedit Abdullah will represent the state in the hearing, and has until Jan 18 to file an affidavit.

The dates were set after a pre-trial conference held at the Supreme Court on Tuesday morning.

Mr Choo Zheng Xi of Peter Low LLC, who is representing the applicants, said: "We are pleased that we have gotten hearing dates. This indicates that our clients have the standing to have their suit heard."
