ST Reader's Post: Life! Editor explains why some cartoons were discontinued
Earlier this month, readers wrote in after some of the cartoons were discontinued as part of a review of the editorial space and content of The Straits Times. Life! Editor Helen Chia, who supervises the section of which the funnies are a part, explains the rationalisation. We also offer a sampling of readers' views, more of which can be read at readerspost.straitstimes.com - Readers' ed.
I GREW up reading the comics pages in The Straits Times and I understand the sense of loss that readers felt when The Straits Times reduced the number of comic strips in the paper from Sept 1. Some readers thought that we had made the cuts to make room for advertisements; others thought that we were trying to cut costs. A few readers accused us of losing our sense of humour.
