ST honoured for guide to teaching values
The Straits Times was honoured for its programme on values education during the first day of the Youth Engagement Summit organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (Wan-Ifra) in Warsaw, Poland on Monday.
The broadsheet topped the 2013 World Young Reader Prize's Learning With The News core category, which recognises outstanding achievements by a News In Education programme globally. The Straits Times' Schools editor Ms Serene Goh represented the paper to receive the prize from Wan-Ifra.
The newspaper bagged the award for 48 Values From The News: The Straits Times' Guide to Building Character - a special 96-page teachers' handbook that showed how to use the news in class to discuss responsibility, choice and identity.
The same publication, produced by a team led by Ms Goh, won Gold for the Best in Community Service at the Asian Media Awards in September.
