The highly-anticipated Sony PlayStation 4 will start selling in Singapore from December this year. Singapore joins Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea as the first five countries in Asia where the PS4 will be launched.

Sony announced this at an Asian press conference on Wednesday evening in Tokyo - the eve of the annual Tokyo Games Show - as it gears up for the looming next-generation video games console wars against rival Microsoft.

While PS4 video game fans here will get their gaming fix weeks after their counterparts in North America and as early as days after those in Europe and Australia, who will get theirs on Nov 29, they will not have to wait as long as their Xbox One counterparts who have to wait till next year before Microsoft's rival game console starts selling in Singapore.

Microsoft's next-gen console - the Xbox One - will start selling in 13 countries in North America, Europe and Oceania - on Nov 22, but the computing giant has yet to firm up on its launch dates for Asia, though it indicated earlier in June that late next year was the timeline video gamers in Asia should be thinking about.
